Kundapur, Apr 24: The POCSO special court of Udupi district additional and sessions court declared an accused guilty of attempted rape of a minor girl and slapped imprisonment of four years and fine on him. The judgement was pronounced by Justice Ermalu Kalpana.

The incident happened in Kundapur police station limits in 2015. Ajith Shetty (34) was the accused. He is sentenced to undergo 3 years prison term and pay Rs 10,000 fine under IPC section 506 and undergo another one-year prison term for death threat and pay Rs 1,500 fine. The court ordered to pay Rs 5,000 to the government and Rs 6,500 to the victim out of the total fine of Rs 11,500. The court also ordered to pay Rs 25,000 to the victim through the legal services authority.

Ajith, who was employed as a labourer had attempted to rape the 15 year-old-girl, his neighbour belonging to the scheduled class near a public well. He had later fled posing death threats to her when he saw approaching neighbours. The then Kundapur station PSI Nasir Hussain had registered a case under POCSO Act against Ajith Shetty. The then Kundapur sub-division DySP M Manjunath Shetty conducted investigations and submitted the charge sheet to the court.

The court which heard 12 witnesses out of 13 and the victim declared that the accused was guilty.

Special government public prosecutor of POCSO court, Y T Raghavendra argued the case for the prosecution.
