Despite objections, Karnataka officials want another lockdown

Bengaluru, Apr 25 (IANS): Karnataka Chief Secretary P. Ravi Kumar said on Saturday that scores of officials from across the state have been demanding another round of lockdown despite objections from a large section of people to impose such curbs despite the alarming surge in the number of Covid cases in the state.

After chairing a senior officials' meeting here, the Chief Secretary told the media that a demand for another round of lockdown from the tchnical advisory committee on Covid affairs has been gaining ground across the state.

"Even the government wants to eforce it. Everyone knows it's the best solution. But a large section of the peopulation don't want it. They want everything to be let loose," he said.

"How long and how much the government can do alone? At some point or the other, the government also needs people's support to implement its decisions. At least in times like this, the least the government can expect is people to wear their masks properly," Kumar added.

At the state Cabinet meeting slated for April 26, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa is reportedly going to solicit opinions from his ministers on imposing week-long lockdown-like restrictions.

The Cabinet is also expected to decide on providing free vaccines to the citizens.

Karnataka officials have nothing to lose by implementing lock down. Sufferers are common people, working people and entrepreneurs. Officials will get unofficial holiday with full payment and they can enjoy as they like.

Well agreed with your decisions to end life on earth! You can impose whatever restrictions once you pay all earning persons whose livelihood you have robbed through any of these measures. Now we didn't vote for you or selected you to lead us but you are just an employee of the govt., & you are paid by our tax payers money, so forego your salaries for a month or two & impose lockdowns & see how you can survive, then only you will know the pain & suffering of people who are not in plum posts like you who are using your brains inside A C rooms & to show your relevance you confuse our political leaders into believing whatever you say. In UK rallies are taking place which no media will dare to show as they are protesting against lockdowns as well as restricting their freedoms granted to them by their constitution. U S Supreme court had given a landmark judgement in January, which is - In any Emergency or pandemic situations no state or federal govt., has the right to take away peoples' rights which are granted by constitution such as freedom of practice or worship as they are supreme, it is up to the churches or worshippers to decide what is good for them or not. Let people decide what is good for their health instead of govts interference in their day to day life & their right to earn livelihood.

Total policy paralysis, irresponsible attitude, corruption, arrogance, wrong decisions and lack of coordination has led us to this despicable stage! Over the last two years more than 3crore middle class Indians have gone below poverty line while the richer have become more richer; 10s of 1000s of millionaires have left the country to safer havens permanently! But seeing the current precarious situation, another lockdown is imminent in my opinion! The middle class and poor have become orphans! It is estimated that for those pushed to BPL, it will take minimum 8-10 years to come back to prior state!

Mr. Secretary, when CM has power to order lockdown, he should have power to provide home daelivery daily grocery to public & finance support. To do that he doesn't have power, then he is not fit to sit on CM chair. He has to quite. People are already going through heavy traumatized situations, without money, food & health issues. Definitely we will cooperate when ever you need peoples support. You might be having enough & sound finance but your elected PRAJA is poor sir.

Mr. Chief Secretary, stop blaming the public - you and your masters are also a part of it. As if your Govt had no role in sending out false messages of things being under control allowing the public to let down its guard. if the right data was shared in time, public would have taken needed precautions.

Lockdown is the only option now. We have live examples of Philippines and GB. When the cases were rising out of control, both the countries opted complete lockdown and in a week, the numbers started reducing. We shouldn't forget how we were able to control the first wave with strict initial lock down. I am for lockdown. Jai lockdown, save lives.

Where was the technical committee when Maharastra / Kerala were reporting alarming numbers? What was the action taken then? Why the travel restriction were not implemented or at least infrastructure was prepared to address any such issues here. Our health minister talks about following UK Model, why can't he follow Kerala Model that was quite successful given the number of cases. They managed it without major restrictions on people. Here in Karnataka, every other Minister speaks a different tune everyday. What is the benefit of allowing constructions, wine shops, salons..etc ? Either enforce a blanket ban for two weeks or just leave it as is. By the way the blame on people is correct because they chose a wrong Govt and expect right things from them.

Government failed to control spreading from Bangalore. First shut the people going out and in to Bangalore. This is the main cause for the cases in the state. Why you lock other districts for the sake of Bangalore?? The officers and political leaders are inefficient and main cause for the spread of covid and more dangerous than the decease.

Yes lockdown is needed fine but what Govt.is doing alternate arrangements for labourers & daily wages people Govt.should search for solution how can they control.this . What is point having lockdown, in our place only 2-3 shops are closed while all others are open as they are selling either milk or vegetables or bread ..... If you want strict lockdown then only allow shop who are directly supplying milk and one essential shop to be open on each day only then we can control this virus

TOTAL LOCKDOWN WORKS! Spread the message of positivity as Mumbai seems to be "breaking the chain" with a sharp drop in positivity rate to below 15% from over 48%! It’s a 3-week low for the city - once the worst-affected in the country, now overtaken by Blr. Well, let us hope the lockdown in Blr is extended until Fri/Sun since its scientifically proven that just 48hrs does not break the chain of transmission/infection. Meanwhile, after acute shortage of life-saving drugs and oxygen cylinders, latest is acute shortage of blood since those vaccinated can't donate for any months.
