Trump says he’s willing to release Epstein files, unsure about pardon for Diddy

Washington, Aug 2: US President Donald Trump has stated that he is open to making public all documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, while distancing himself from the possibility of granting a pardon to rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs.

In an interview with Newsmax on Friday, Trump responded to rising calls for transparency over Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, following reports of a nine-hour interview between Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and Maxwell at a Florida prison.

“I want to release everything,” Trump said, emphasizing, “but we don’t want people to get hurt that shouldn’t be hurt.” He clarified he has not yet discussed the interview with Blanche and was unaware of any immediate plans to release a transcript.

On the question of a potential pardon for Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking, Trump said, “I’m allowed to do it, but nobody’s asked me to do it. I know nothing about the case, but I know I have the right to do it.”

Trump’s stance was firmer when it came to Sean “Diddy” Combs, who was recently convicted on two counts of prostitution. Although cleared of more serious charges, Combs faces up to 20 years in prison at his sentencing in October.

When asked about a pardon for Combs, Trump said, “Probably – eh, you know, I was very friendly with him. I got along with him great… but when I ran for office, he was very hostile.” He admitted that personal history made the decision more complicated.

“They have talked to me about Sean,” Trump said, before adding, “I would say so,” when asked if he was leaning toward denying a pardon.
