Bengaluru, Apr 26: The state election commission has announced a timetable for elections for ten local bodies of eight districts and two by-elections for two ward seats vacated for various reasons in the state. The elections will be held on April 27 on orders from the state high court.
The officials will take sufficient precautions with the cooperation of government departments in all the toll booths in view of the current Coronavirus pandemic.
The concerned district in-charge secretary has been appointed as administrator from the next day of the expiry of the term in case of district panchayats whose term expires in May-June. The term of the administrator is valid till the process of elections for president and vice-president for district panchayats will be completed or till further orders, whichever is earlier.
The elections will be held for municipal councils in Ballary, Vijayapura, Ramanagar, Channapattana, Bhadravati, Beloor, Madikeri, Bidar, Gudibande town panchayat and Theerthahalli town panchayats. Elections will also be held for a ward each of Herekerru town panchayat and Hallikheda town panchayat.
The elections will be held from 7 am till 6 pm. The Covid patients are permitted to cast their votes at 5 pm observing Covid protocol. The election commission has supplied Covid kits to all the polling booths.
The concerned election officials, booth officials, staff, police, health and other staff have been directed to strictly enforce Covid guidelines.
