Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 18: Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday, Aug 18 reported 268 new coronavirus cases and three deaths, while Udupi registered 97 new cases and two deaths.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 14,18,465 samples have been tested so far, out of which 13,11,781 have turned out to be negative.
The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,06,684 out of which 3,367 are currently active.
As many as 343 patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday.
The district recorded three deaths due to coronavirus on Wednesday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,514.
The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.
So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,03,50,520 as fine in 85,024 incidents of mask violation.
Udupi
As per the district health bulletin, as many as 8,64,644 samples have been tested so far.
A total of 97 new cases were reported on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases to 72,144 out of which 1,293 are currently active.
A total of 131 patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday.
Out of 97 new patients, 82 are in home isolation while 15 are in Covid-designated hospitals.
Among the 97 cases, as many as 67 are symptomatic and 30 are asymptomatic.
While Udupi reported 52 new cases, Kundapur registered 18 and Karkala 26 and one case was from out of district.
Coronavirus has claimed 436 lives in the district so far, including two on Wednesday. The person’s who died on Wednesday were from Udupi.
So far, 5,93,317 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 2,18,063 have received the second dose.
A total of 51 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the district so far, out of which, 4 are currently active.
