Raichur, Aug 21: During the night procession on the occasion of Muharram festival, two persons died after the silver umbrella accidentally came in contact with live power cables passing above.

The incident happened in the early morning on Friday August 20. Those who were killed have been identified as Hussainsaab Devaramani (48) and Huligemma (20). When the procession, as per custom, visited the 'Gadduge' of Alayi Devaru, the silver umbrella attached to the god's idol came in contact with the power cables passing above. Hussainsaab Devaramani, who was holding the idol, collapsed to the ground after electricity was transmitted. Huligemma, who was there to meet the religious vow undertaken by her, was standing next to the person holding the idol. Therefore, she too was electrocuted. Both breathed their last when being taken to hospital.
