Mysuru, Sep 29: The government has affected changes in the compensation amounts payable to below poverty line (BPL) and non-BPL families that have suffered Covid19-related deaths. In case of demise of a person belonging to BPL family, the compensation has been enhanced from earlier one lac rupees to Rs 1.5 lac. At the same time, compensation in respect of non-BPL families has been newly announced as Rs 50,000.

For the BPL families, one lac rupees would be disbursed under the state government's 'Sandhya Suraksha' scheme and Rs 50,000 from the state disaster relief fund. If more than one person from a BPL family has died due to coronavirus infection, compensation for the first person would be Rs 1.5 lac and Rs 50,000 each for the remaining deaths. In the case of non-BPL family deaths, the compensation of Rs 50,000 would be given, an order of the government said.

The revised order was issued hours after the earlier order of paying one lac rupees in case of the death of a member of BPL family was withdrawn. In the case of non-BPL families, if a family has witnessed more than one death, under the state disaster relief fund, Rs 50,000 will be disbursed for each deceased person, the order has clarified.

Applications can be submitted in all the taluk offices, Nada Kacheri, and ward offices within Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike limits. In spite of where the person died in the state, applications have to be submitted in the jurisdiction of the place of their residence, it has been specified.
