Udupi: KMC Manipal celebrates National voluntary blood donation day

Udupi, Oct 1: Donating blood or its components to a needy person has become a very important part of humanity in the modern health care system. To create awareness, every year on October 1, National voluntary blood donation day is celebrated in India.

Blood Center of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal celebrated National voluntary blood donation day on Friday, October 1, 2021. A dedicated blood center van was flagged off during the occasion and various recognized regional blood donor motivators were felicitated during the event.

Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, dean, Kasturba Medical College Manipal was the chief guest of the program and said, “It does not matter who is the donor of blood and who is the recipient of blood, in the future, it is also possible that the donor may become a recipient of blood and in the coming time, the recipient of blood may become a healthy donor. That is why donating blood without any desire is a great and important part of humanity in the process of saving lives”.

Col Prakash Chandra B, director – General Services MAHE, Manipal, and CG Muthana, chief operating officer, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal were the guest of honour of the programme.

Col Prakash Chandra spoke about the importance of Blood Donation and said, “All the organizations should come forward to motivate the people for blood donation”. On this occasion felicitation was carried out for BJP Yuva Morcha, Udupi City, Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane (R), Udupi, Abhayahastha Charitable Trust (R), Udupi, Vishnumoorthy Friends (R), Doddanagudde, Udupi, Milagres College, Kallianpur, Manipal Technologies Limited, Manipal, Karavali Youth Club, Udupi, Hindu Jagarana Vedhike, Udupi, Sri Madhava Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Bantakal, Govt First Grade College, Thenkanidiyur, Mahathma Gandhi Medical College, Kunjibettu, Udupi, and Udupi District Vishwakarma Carpenters Union (R), Udupi for organizing and motivating the people to donate blood.

Dr Shamee Shastry, professor and head, department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion, Kasturba Medical College Manipal mentioned about the need of creating awareness on special blood donation including apheresis donation and stem cell donation.
