Mangaluru/Udupi, Oct 10: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday October 10 continued its downward trend in the number of new coronovirus cases, with the district reporting only 38 new infections and one death. Similarly, Udupi too maintained a steady decline, reporting only 18 new cases and no death.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 19,50,797 samples have been tested so far, out of which 18,35,943 have turned out to be negative.
The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,14,854, out of which 497 are currently active.
As many as 69 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,12,687.
The district recorded one death due to coronavirus on Sunday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,670, out of which five are non-Covid deaths.
The positivity rate in the district stands at 0.43%.
Even though the cases are declining, the district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.
So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,07,07,670 as fine in 88,149 incidents of mask violation.
Udupi
As per the district health bulletin, as many as 11,65,189 samples have been tested so far.
A total of 18 new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 76,499, out of which 92 are currently active.
A total of 10 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 75,933.
Out of 18 new patients, 15 are in home isolation while 3 are in Covid-designated hospitals.
Among the 18, as many as 16 are symptomatic and 2 asymptomatic.
While Udupi taluk reported 10 of the 18 cases, Kundapur recorded 2, and Karkala 5.
Coronavirus has claimed 474 lives in the district so far.
So far, 9,03,483 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 4,29,013 have received the second dose.
A total of 53 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the district so far, out of which only one is active.
