Andria Wins State Title Again, Vanessa, Gopal Qualify

Media Release

Bangalore, Oct 26: Derik's Chess School talent Andria D'Souza, who was recently crowned state under 17 Girls' champion, has added another feather by winning State Under 14 Girls Championship in the State level inter-school chess championship held at Bangalore from October 19 to 22.

She scored unbeaten 9 points in 10 rounds with 8 wins and 2 draws. By virtue of this performance she also defended her title which she had won last year. She will now lead the Karnataka Under 14 Girls team in the upcoming National Championship to be organised by School Games Federation of India at Goa during November.

Andria D'Souza

She is studying in 7th standard in St Agnes Girls' Primary school, Mangalore and is daughter of Victor D'Souza and Avitha D'Souza.

While Andria had a good run to the title, her sister Vanessa D'Souza, had to be content for the second place inspite of winning against the Champion in the last round in Under 17 girls category. She was in a 3 way tie after 10 rounds with 8.5 points (8 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss). Her tiebreak point 66.5 fell short by half a point to defend her title.

Vanessa D'Souza, Pangal Gopalkrishna

She had to be content for the runner up. She will represent Karnataka state under 17 Girls team in the nationals.

Vanessa D'Souza is studying in 10th standard in St Agnes Girls High School, Mangalore.

In Under 14 Boys category, another Derik's Chess School talent Pangal Gopalkrsihna Nayak secured Runner Up with 8 points in 10 rounds (with 8 wins & 2 loss). It was notable that he was initially seeded 5th and stood much above his seeding. His significant peformance was his victory against the champion of the category Augustin in round 7. He is selected to represent Karnataka under 14 boys team in the Nationals.

Pangal Gopalkrishna is studying in 7th standard in Canara Urwa High School and is son of Pangal Devadas Nayak and Gayathri Nayak.
