Mangaluru, Oct 16: After the state legislative committee on backward classes and minorities welfare directed officials to give a report on the working of Christian missionaries in the district, former MLA J R Lobo cried foul saying that the BJP government is targetting the Christian community.
Addressing media here on Saturday October 16, Lobo said, “The committee, targeting the Christian community, has taken the decision over allegations of religious conversion. The move made by the BJP is baseless. One needs to understand here that it is impossible to convert anyone forcibly to other religion. If such cases occur, there are certain laws to take action. BJP are unnecessarily criticizing a particular community.
“The Christian community is a peace loving community which has immensely contributed in the field of education, medical and social service. If the beneficiaries in the field of education, medical and social service underwent conversion, then 70% of the country’s population would have been Christianity. The community is BJP’s soft target political gain.
“The committee has also said that the committee members should visit churches on Sundays. The doors of churches are always open as God is one. Visit to the churches with a good motive are always welcome,” he said.
