Bantwal, Oct 17: Land acquisition to construct flyover at Kalladka in connection with the development of highway between the stretch of BC Road and Addahole is over. Now the buildings in the acquired land are being demolished.
The work of a four lane highway on the 64 km stretch will take place in two phases. All processes prior to starting the actual work are underway from Kalladka to Melkar.
One phase of work will be done from Periyashanthi to B C Road and the other will be from Addahole to Periyashanti. Most of the buildings in Kalladka junction will be demolished for this work. While some new buildings are coming up behind the old ones, other buildings are built on the outskirts of the town.
Many landmark building of Kalladka like K T Hotel, Office of Gombe Balaga, Mahamayi Katte, which had religious history, Souza cloth stores, which was renowned in cloth trade, old bus stand, Vijaya bank which was in the building owned by former MLA, Gopal cloth stores, Kalladka rice mill and Shilpa watch shop are demolished.
While some shops and establishments are history now, others will open their new outlets in the buildings that will be constructed behind the original shops.
