Shivamogga, Dec 1: After a pickup truck loaded with cows dashed against people who tried to stop the cattle thieves, two suffered serious injuries and were admitted into a hospital in Manipal. The cattle were being illegally transported from Melige in Thirthahalli taluk.
The incident happened on Tuesday November 30. A team of young men chased the said vehicle. At Bejjavalli, the vehicle driver tried to run over two youngsters and seriously injured two. Near Kudumallige rice mill too the vehicle brushed against a few people.
Kiran (23) and Charan (24), sons of Kittanagadde Manjunath, suffered serious injuries and were hospitalised.
The cattle thieves who came to know that they were being followed, tried to mislead the chasers by changing the route and drove through Horabail. But the young men continued their chase and tried to stop the vehicle at Kuruvalli circle. The thieves did not stop there and hit the two men at Bejjavalli.
Later, the accused, identified as Naveed from Shivamogga and Sridhar Gowda from Heggaru were beaten up before handing them over to the police.
Home minister Araga Jnanendra, said that steps will be taken against the cattle thieves and arrangement to treat the young men has been made at Manipal.
