Asian Games volleyball: Men's team go down to Thailand in quarters


Guangzhou, Nov 21 (IANS) India's stupendous run in men's volleyball came to a halt with a heart-breaking 0-3 loss to Thailand in the quarterfinals at the Asian Games here Sunday.

World no. 38 India, who steamrolled higher-ranked teams such as Japan and Kazakhstan in the earlier rounds, was humbled 20-25, 23-25, 22-25 by a spirited Thailand at the Guangwai Gymnasium. Thailand is ranked 10 places behind India, who now will play for 5-8 positions Monday.

In the women's event, India lost to Kazakhstan 18-25, 9-25, 10-25 in a Group B preliminary match. The team next plays Chinese Taipei Monday.
