Bengaluru, Jan 5: The state government is introducing ‘Swayam Rakshana’ self-defence skills training in post-metric residential schools in order to empower girl students.
A circular in this regard is already taken out by the government and classes will begin from the first week of January itself. Karate, Judo and Taekwondo training will be imparted to more than four lac students across the state.
Girl students who have completed 10th standard and are residing in residential schools will benefit from this project. Students studying in 4245 government high schools and 441 PU colleges will take part in this project.

The trainers will be given Rs 4,000 as fee and every student will get Rs 500 as one-time expense. In total two crore is released for this project.
Trainers are required to visit the hostel twice a week. The classes will be of 45 minutes duration. In three months they have to complete 20 classes.
For this academic year the training will take place from January 1 till March 31. From the next academic year it will be given whole year.
Giving details of the project, Reshma Kausar, officer in social welfare department said, “This training will impart self-confidence in girls and make them ready to face any adverse situation. We have already selected martial arts trainers.”
