Bengaluru, Jan 23: The education department is mulling over holding examinations for first to ninth grade this year, according to government sources. They were not held for the past two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Parents also feel that the examinations are necessary to understand the learning ability of children, though the classes were not held this year as usual.

In the past two years, students have attended classes online and were promoted to the next grade without any examination. Due to this their learning ability has dropped, believe the parents. Parents also feel that their enthusiasm is reduced because of sitting at home. So they feel that it is good to hold examinations in view of the future of their children.

According to the advice given by education experts, the examinations for first to ninth grade should be held before the SSLC examinations. They have urged the government to allow schools to hold physical classes for students.

Dr V P Niranjanaradhya, education expert says, “There is no meaning in closing schools in the name of pandemic. Any kind of justification is detrimental to the interest and future of the children. Closing of schools should be the last option regardless of the number of new waves of pandemic. Also schools must be opened on priority. Closing of schools while all other establishments are open is just fearsome and there is no scientific reason behind it.”
