Udupi: Speeding car knocks down pedestrians including pregnant lady crossing road

Udupi, Feb 4: A car which was being driven at high speed hit three pedestrians who were crossing the road near Kadiyali on Thursday February 3. A video showing the three pedestrians having been knocked down to the ground has become viral in social media.

Three persons including a lady who is said to be pregnant, were crossing the road from the left side of the road towards Kadiyali Mahishamardini temple when an Innova car that was speeding towards Udupi from the direction of Manipal hit them. All the three fell down on the road, and it is learnt that the pregnant woman suffered serious injuries to her head.

Immediately thereafter, the car driver admitted the injured into hospital and ensured that they were treated. No complaint was registered in this connection in the traffic police station. This scene was captured in the CCTV camera of a showroom nearby. The people in general have been expressing anger at the recklessness of the car driver.

    feel sorry for the pregnant lady..but both parties must be careful..esp if we are crossing its ok to wait for 5 min than risking life..

    I understand pedestrian were wrong but how about someone’s life lost ? The car driver had sufficient far to had a break, so i think he was in not concentrate on road and if he was this would have been avoided but I blame crosser too they think completely opposite as car have break so he do but don’t care of their life

    Don't blame the driver it is not his mistake, infact he admitting the injured to hospital for no fault his shows that humanity exists. There are absolutely no rules followed when Crossing the road. Even when you see a vehicle coming it is the pedestrians duty to wait & cross only at zebra crossing. Here people cross the road knowing fully well if they fall under a vehicle the driver will be blamed and not them!

    Here in comments everyone is blaming car driver , Logically speaking pedestrian should cross in pedestrian crossing. They can’t just walk where they like ,when it’s a road for vehicle , when it’s a road a driver can’t drive in 10 speed , When they know car is approaching they should have waited for the car to pass , even the driver will think the pedestrians will wait for him to pass . Both are parties are held accountable in this case I wish and pray the injured to recover and keep them safe

    It was the womans fault clearly. From the video, it is evident she did not see the speeding car coming her way. She was casually walking at her own pace with her daughter. This was not a service road but the main road where cars come very fast at the right side of the road. I have seen many incidents like these where because of the pedestrian not looking both ways when crossing the road they meet with such accidents. Because of pedestrian ignorance accidents like these happen. And when u try to explain to the pedestrian they're wrong they start insulting you as if they were right.

    It is reckless driving and reckless driving is thriving in and around the country. Roads are conjusted and bottlenecks everywhere with never ending here some digging and there some digging. Trafic police is more interested in fines, underhand givings and trying to make every one a proclaimed criminal, even for not carrying the airtest certificate. No pedestrian crossing, proper walk ways, proper rain water drains, proper dividers, no proper sewage or drinking water pipings in the so called smart city, where crores are getting spent from years. Neverthless life goes on.

    Very painful to see. The driver had enough time and distance to stop. It is purely reckless driving. May be he was not watching road or he was ignorant of other lives.

    Very Sad to see this. Should not happen to anyone. But when we observe the video, the persons crossing the road are casually walking as if the are walking in their house compound. When you walk on a highway or a main road, its your duty to look at the traffic coming and take the necessary steps. Looks like they did not even know the car had come close to them before getting hit. Caution to all: Please please watch the road while walking. Dont blame this innocent driver. Its takes so much time for the brakes to be applied and the car to come to a halt.

    This car driver must be put behind the bars. He was probably using mobile phone while driving. Otherwise there is no reason for him not to see the people crossing the road. It was a clear day and there was no vehicle in front of the car. He cant say that he did not see them. Another issue I have is the way driving licenses are handed out without proper driving lessons and tests. We must follow the driving standards from other countries, educate people on lane discipline, importance of following speed limits and have speed radars to heavily fine the people breaking speed limit. Without proper driving lessons and education people will continue to drive recklessly endangering lives of pedestrians.

    Lara, u can clearly see they did not look before crossing the road. How do u expect him to halt so quickly in the middle of a highway at such a speed? And also halfway through the road? He doesnt have eagle vision to see people from afar. Pedestrian should have some brain before casually walking down the highway. If u have doubts, look at the video again. It is clearly evident they did not see the car coming because they wer looking straight and not at the road. You have no idea how dumb people are when crossing roads in india.
