Kundapur/Byndoor, Feb 4: The controversy over the wearing of Hijab continued in the town even on Friday February 4, the third day of the tussle. Muslim girl students attended the government PU college today too with Hijabs and they were refused entry into the college compound.
In spite of clear instructions from the principal not to enter the college premises, the students wearing Hijabs pushed the gates, entered the compound, and asked to be allowed to remain in the compound. Their parents objected to the refusal of the college management entry into the college and protested outside the gate. When the deputy superintendent said protest cannot be held there, there was verbal friction.

As soon as girls with scarves entered the college premises, some students wearing saffron shawls began to move around in classes. When the parents insisted that they should be driven out, these students were sent out. When these students raising 'Jai Sri Ram' slogans came out, tension mounted near the gate. Leaders of Hindu and Muslim organizations tried to place arguments on behalf of the students. Even though they presented their cases in front of the police, the police drove them away saying government permission is necessary. The students then removed their shawls and attended classes but the girls refused to remove their Hijabs and continued to wait near the gate.
The lecturers and the principal were present all through these developments, in the school grounds. Lecturers tried to convince the students. The girl students with tears asked to permit them to sit at least near the stage. These 20 girls remained in the ground. Police inspector of Kundapur station, Srikanth, took the parents to task and warned of registering first information reports if they held protest. The gate was locked by the college staff and the parents stayed near the gate.

The Hijab controversy has been spreading to new territories. In an incident which happened in Byndoor taluk, a Hindu organization reportedly forced students of Byndoor government PU college to wear saffron shawls. The students of this college wear burqa but remove the once they enter the college. The concerned appear to be trying to create a controversy on the issue purposefully.
The college principal, in tune with the decision of the college managing committee, instructed the concerned to continue with the classes as usual in a peaceful manner.
