Bantwal, Feb 10: Two men who entered a house located at Addada Beedi near Vittal downtown approached a woman who was alone at her home. They posed as electricity employees enquiring about payment of the electricity bill, and succeeded in attacking the woman, leaving her seriously injured, and taking away her gold ornament.
The woman, identified as Bifatumma (50), wife of Sulaiman, resident of Vittal Casba village, suffered serious injuries. She has been admitted into a private hospital in Mangaluru.
Bifatumma's husband, Sulaiman, sells tender coconuts at the Addada Beedi, a little away from his home. In the afternoon, he had returned home, and gone back after having lunch. Within 15 minutes after he left, two strangers wearing helmets knocked at the door of his house. When the woman came out, the visitors wanted to know whether the power bill of the house had been paid. She answered in the affirmative and went in to bring the paid receipt when the men followed her into the house, and attacked her with sharp weapons. They inflicted injuries to her hands, head and abdomen before snatching the golden chain worn by the woman around her neck and escaping.
Bifatumma somehow succeeded in coming out and raising an alarm. Thereafter she was provided initial treatment at the Vittal community health centre and taken to Mangaluru for advanced treatment.
The almirah inside one of the rooms was found to have been opened and it is not known whether more money and cash were robbed. Vittal police inspector Nagaraj H E, station house officer Sanjeeva and other personnel inspected the crime scene. Canine squad and fingerprint experts from Mangaluru scrutinized the area. Vittal police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
