Bengaluru, Feb 10: The campaign to vaccinate children against Covid in the state has suffered a setback because of the shortage of Covaxin. At the same time, health and frontline workers and senior citizens with comorbidities are running from pillar to post in search of booster (precautionary) dose.
The central government which launched the campaign to vaccinate children in the 15-18 age group had approved only Covaxin vaccine. Even though the campaign went on well initially, the children now are found visiting vaccination centres seeking to get second dose. Still about eight lac children are yet to get the first dose.
As many as 17.64 lac children who got vaccinated between January 3 and 12 are eligible to get second dose. As per health department information, till February 9, 7.10 lac children alone have got the second dose.
The health department officials have agreed that there is some shortage of Covaxin and they expect to get fresh stock on Thursday.
