Beltangady, Feb 24: A woman was collecting firewood over a hillock near her home in Navoor village in the taluk when a youth approached her in the guise of borrowing her billhook. It is said that he tried to rape her after going near the lady on this pretext.
The accused has been named as Santosh (25), resident of Lingatyar House in Indabettu village. A married lady from Desottu in Navoor village had left her house to go up a hillock to collect firewood at about 4 pm on February 22. The accused who came there, spoke to the lady in the guise of seeking her billhook. He suddenly dragged her towards himself and attempted to rape her. When the lady resisted, he left the spot, after warning the lady that she would be killed if she revealed about the incident to anyone else.
Beltangady police, who have registered a case against Santosh, have begun the probe.
