Bengaluru, Feb 26: With the State unit of Congress party all set to resume its second leg of the padayatra demanding implementation of the Mekedatu balancing reservoir project from Ramanagara from Sunday, KPCC Chief DK Shivakumar and other party leaders visited the National College Grounds at Basavanagudi for the padyatra culmination public meeting on March 3.

KPCC Working President B Ramalinga Reddy, Congress Opposition leader in the Council BK Hariprasad, Bengaluru Rural MP DK Suresh and other leaders accompanied the State Congress president.

As the participants in the March 3 public meeting will be arriving in the city by Metro trains, the Congress leaders travelled on the Metro service and got down at the station close to the National College grounds. The Congress leaders indicated that most of the people will be arriving to attend the public meeting by Metro train with a view to minimise the traffic congestions in the city so as not to inconvenience the public.

Shivakumar said the party has decided to curtail its plans for conducting the padayatra from the originally planned 5 days to 3 days in view of the budget session of the State Legislature commencing on March 4 with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai presenting his government’s first budget.

The Congress leaders said the padayatra was apolitical and aimed at bringing drinking water to Bengaluru and surrounding areas. The public meeting at the National College will be held at 3 pm so as to conclude it early and enable the participants to return home safely, the KPCC Chief added.

Earlier, former minister PGR Sindhia called on Shivakumar at his residence and held discussions with him.
