Mangaluru, Feb 26: Former MLA Vasanth Bangera questioned Beltangady MLA Harish Poonja’s silence over the murder of a Dalit youth in Dharmasthala.

Addressing media here on Saturday February 26, Vasanth Bangera said, “Dalit youth Dinesh was murdered by Krishna alias Kitta from Dharmasthala who is Bajrang Dal convenor and brother of Bhaskar who is also Bajrang Dal leader in Beltangady.

“Seven years ago, Bhaskar and his brothers were involved in attacking reserve police. Three brothers including accused Krishna alias Kitta are known for rowdyism and actively involved in sand and wood mafia. MLA Harish Poonja who always stands in favour of Hindu and alleges that Congress is anti-Hindu, is now silent over the issue.

“Accused Krishna was in the hospital with Dinesh. When Krishna came to know that Dinesh was dead, he escaped from the hospital. Police have arrested the accused. We demand Rs 25 lac compensation to the family of Dinesh. We are also planning to raise funds for the family of Dinesh.

“The accused’s brother Bhaskar also took the initiative in marrying an inter-religion couple in the temple. The boy belonged to the Muslim community from Kundapur while the girl is a Hindu. Bhaskar and Krishna alias Kitta are the close aides of MLA Harish Poonja,” said Vasanth Bangera.

Dinesh mother Padmavathi said, “Bhaskar even threatened me against filing the complaint. He was even threatening the cops.”
