Bantwal, Feb 28: In a shocking incident, the gram panchayat president alleged assaulted and attempted to stab a panchayat member for having asked a question in the ordinary meeting of gram panchayat here. The incident happened at Navoor gram panchayat auditorium on Monday February 28.
Gram panchayat member Janardhan who was injured in the assault is admitted to Bantwal government hospital.
Janardhan alleged that gram panchayat Umesh Kulal assaulted him in his police complaint lodged at Bantwal rural police station. Janardhan had asked during the meeting a question relating to a bill payment for the works. Janardhan also complained that the president was about to stab him but other members intervened and prevented the stabbing, he stated.
Rural police station inspector Harish is conducting investigation.
