Bantwal: Catholic community members form human chain in protest

Bantwal, March 2: The Catholic community members in Mogarnad deanery protested forming a massive human chain near B C Road Bypass circle condemning the atrocities against the community.

The protests were held to highlight that the community was being deprived of the rights mentioned in the constitution of India and that the community has a right to live as the citizens of the country.

Herald D’Souza delivered the keynote address. The Mangaluru Diocese Catholic Sabha president Stany Lobo and Secretary Alphonso Fernandes said that the repeated incidents of violence are happening against the community. “The government, concerned departments and officials need to provide protection to Catholic community,” they said.

Fr Valerian D’Souza, Fr Peter D’Souza, Fr Fredrick Monteiro, Fr Ivan Peter D’Mello, Fr Patrick Sequeira, Fr John Prakash Pereira, Fr Gratian Alvares, Fr Francis Crasta, Fr Leo Lobo, Fr Alwyn D’Cunha, Fr Dr Mark Castelino, Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues, Fr Paul Prakash D’Souza, Fr Vishal Melwyn Monis, Fr Sunil Praveen Pinto, Fr Gregory Pereira, Fr Henry D’ Souza, Fr Santhosh D’Souza, Fr Trishan, nuns and thousands of community members took part in the protests.
The Catholic community leaders submitted an appeal to Bantwal tahsildar after the protests. Walter Noronha compered the programme.
