Bengaluru, Mar 4: The state high court has issued orders restraining political parties from holding protests, processions, Padayatra etc in the city in any place other than the Freedom Park.

The high court had filed a suo motu public interest litigation last year about the problems created for the general public because of the traffic snarls created by protests and processions. Chief Justice, Ritu Raj Awasthi, and Justice S R Krishnakumar forming a division bench which heard the petition on Thursday, passed this order.

The high court made it clear in its order that the people of the city have been suffering because of protests and processions since long. It observed that the protests and processions organized by the political parties and non-government organizations and others create serious problems and traffic blocks in the city. Therefore, it ordered that all processions and protests should be confined to only the Freedom Park. It also instructed the state government to implement this order at the earliest.
