Raising questions on EVM is anti-democratic: BJP

New Delhi, Mar 9 (IANS): Hitting out at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, the BJP said that raising questions on EVM is anti-democratic.

The saffron party also said that the BJP did not question EVMs after the defeat in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and other states.

SP chief Yadav has alleged malpractices before counting and said that a truck carrying EVMs had been intercepted by party workers in Varanasi while two other trucks managed to speed away.

BJP national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh tweeted, "The very reaction by dynasts @yadavakhilesh & Jayant Choudhary to exit polls by accusing @ECISVEEP of EVM malpractices shows how separated they are from the real world. The sense of entitlement due to dynastic politics gives them the arrogance and anti democratic attitude."

Party national general secretary C.T. Ravi without naming anyone tweeted, "Poor EVMs, they have to bear the brunt of Dynasts."

BJP national secretary and party in-charge of Gorakhpur region Arvind Menon said that Akhilesh raising questions on EVMs is anti-democratic.

"In a democracy, the people's decision is paramount and it should be accepted with an open mind and introspection. Akhilesh Yadav ji raising questions on EVMs is not only ridiculous but also anti-democratic. Did BJP question EVMs after defeat in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan etc.?," Menon tweeted in Hindi.

Taking a dig at SP chief Yadav, Union Minister Anurag Thakur had said, "Wait for March 10... Akhilesh (Yadav) has started saying that EVMs are unfaithful even before the results are announced."

"The BJP will retain power in Uttar Pradesh with a thumping majority due to the new 'MY' (Modi-Yogi) factor," Thakur had said.

Akhilesh Yadav had further said that the exit polls were done in a particular manner to create a perception that the BJP is winning so that they can indulge in malpractices during counting.

Many countries of the world, including England, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United States, have banned the use of EVMs. The explanation given for manual counting is it takes days - When the whole election process takes more than a month -- a few days surely will not matter -- considering democracy -- free and fair elections -- governance issues -- peoples right to change -- Democracy is all about smooth transition of power -- from one govt to next -- without violence etc - Earlier when a king dies -- MONARCHY --the succession involved many a killings etc

BJP crooks are only defending that they have not questioned EVMs in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and other states. but he did not talk about the EVMs that were intercepted by SP and two trucks that sped away. What was the need for moving the EVMs that were used for training before the results were out and just after polling? why did the other two trucks speed away? if EVMs in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and other states were seen moving it should have rightfully been stopped by anyone. This clearly gives rise to doubts on the EVMs. BTW, it is not EVM malfunctioning, but a complete election fraud using EVMs. It is high time that supreme court intervenes and bans EVMs across the country.

Questioning is democratic right of every citizen. When successive E C are acting like part of ruling party facilitating prejudiced actions people have lost faith in it. Why no cross verifications of VVPATS with EVM s in case of disputed results declared by returning officers despite discrepancies found by losing candidates? Why object in courts for 25% of VVPATs cross examinations by giving flimsy excuses? What is thereto hide by them while delaying counting by 15 days or more but can't extend it for a single day to cross verify with VVPATS? In a democracy transparency should be above suspicion and EC must be appointed by Supreme Court only and not by PM.
