Cong 'dissenters' say collective, inclusive leadership the way forward

New Delhi, Mar 17 (IANS): Congress dissenters, or the 'G-23' group seeking a sweeping overhaul in the party's functioning, met at senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad's residence and over Kashmiri food, discussed their strategy to take their point to the party leadership, specially the Gandhi family.

After the meeting, the group issued a statement, reading: "We believe that the only way forward for the Congress is to adopt the model of collective and inclusive leadership and decision making at all level... in order to oppose the BJP, it is necessary to strengthen the Congress party. We demand that Congress party initiate a dialogue with like-minded forces to create a platform to pave way for a credible alternative in 2024."

The group was elated as apart from the initial members, some more leaders including Mani Shankar Aiyar, Patiala MP and former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh's wife Preneet Kaur, senior leader P.J. Kurien, former Punjab Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Raj Babbar, and Kuldeep Sharma were also seen arriving at Azad's residence for the meeting.

Shankarsinh Vaghela and Sandeep Dikshit were also taking part.

Vaghela has been in the Congress in the past but his present status is not clear.

The meeting is being held to devise the further strategy after the CWC endorsed Sonia Gandhi's leadership. The group has already reached out to the like-minded leaders within the Congress.

The Congress President on Tuesday removed state chiefs of five states and after which loyalists started targeting the dissenters.

However, one of the members Vivek Tankha dismissed the word 'rebellion', saying: "There is no rebellion." He also left early.

Talking to IANS, Dikshit said: "The Congress President should have accessibility, acceptability and accountability."

EARLIER ONE WHO SIMPLY LEADS WAS A LEADER IRRESPECTIVE OF RESULTS. NOW IT IS ONE WHO WORKS HARD WITH DEDICATION AND GETS RESULTS IS A REAL LEADER. THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NOW AND THEN. INSTEAD OF GIVING EXCUSE BY BLAMING EVM OR ELECTION COMMISSION ONE HAS TO TAKE LEADERSHIP AS A CHALLENGE AND SHOW THE RESULTS.

BJP WAS SUFFERING FROM SAME PROBLEM EARLIER BUT WHEN MODI SHIFTED TO CENTER FROM STATE EVERYTHING HAS BEEN SET RIGHT IN ORDER. A NATIONAL PARTY LIKE CONGRESS HAS REACHED TO THE STAGE TO LEARN FROM MODI WHAT IS LEADERSHIP.

Right from the 2014 elections, we see a pattern emerging of exit polls by the Godi media whose predictions have always matched with the final results. In fact the exit polls of 2019 general elections predicted 303 seats and the results matched the exit polls prediction. A lot of people across the country have no doubt in their minds that the EVM's are being hacked or manipulated . Such manipulations get repeated after each election including the recent elections. AAP winning Punjab with a landslide while loosing their deposits in most other states is a case in point of targetting the Congress since it is the only national party with pan india presence and Millions of followers. EVM'S are being used to decimate the congress and achieve their stated goal of Congress Mukt Bharat while Modi and Amit shah keep rattling their ill talk about the 70 years of congress rule and bad mouth Nehru and Gandhi. Akhlesh Yadav like Tejaaswini Yadav in Bihar were denied their much deserved victories with such manipulations of the EVM's.

G 23 or G 3 , is not the question now. According to me for Congress need of the hour is good,Able, experienced, mass leader, only can take the party to the front again. Present top leaders totally failed to lead the party. Otherwise in 2024 the position will be still worst.

What is lacking in congress is a commanding and far sighted top leadership.... After Rajiv Gandhi, Soniaji could salvage some credentials under PVN and MMS... But somewhere the ill health has forced her to take the back seat and Rahul is a reluctant politician backed by few inefficient advisors... This situation may not improve from here any time soon...

Are you sure Sonia's poor health is the reason. Why don't we accept that during 10 years of UPA rule, she did allow her loyalists to make amass money in various scams and scandals which caused losing many voters and sympathizers of congress to other parties like AAP etc.....

There is no such thing as "collective, inclusive" leadership anywhere in the world. Organisations succeed where the top leaders are dictators. Otherwise, the infighting decimates the organisations in no time.

If Dictators are the answer to success, then why Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka have not dictated so far. When results are good, all credit goes to them, when results are bad - dictators are required. I beg to differ. It is always collective leadership which must be screened through from the grassroots. The grassroot cadres know the veins of the party. Look at the old Jan Sngh, 2 seats a few decades ago. Today 2/3 rd mejority under BJP. The wine is the same, bottle has changed. Why can Congress invent something which people partake in it.
