Gandhis reach out to dissenters, Rahul meets Hooda

New Delhi, Mar 17 (IANS): Former Haryana Chief Minister and one of the dissidents, Bhupinder Singh Hooda met Rahul Gandhi on Thursday at Tughlak lane. The meeting lasted for about 40 minutes and is seen as a reach out gesture from the party to the members of G-23.

The former CM, a popular leader in Haryana, is one of the key figures in the G-23 and has been one of the regular attendees of the meetings, but the meeting with Rahul Gandhi is said be for grievance redressal of the group and particularly for Hooda who is likely to be appointed as state president of the Haryana Congress, a key demand of his supporters.

The G-23 met on Wednesday and issued a statement as the group wants that Congress organisation should be revamped and there should be accountability of the people involved in election process. It said, "We believe that the only way forward for the Congress is to adopt the model of collective and inclusive leadership and decision making at all levels... in order to oppose the BJP, it is necessary to strengthen the Congress party. We demand that the Congress party initiate a dialogue with like-minded forces to create a platform to pave way for a credible alternative in 2024."

The Congress president on Tuesday removed state chiefs of five states and after which loyalists started targeting the dissenters.

But on Wednesday, Sonia Gandhi again appointed Ajay Maken to find out the reasons for poll losses in Punjab much to the discomfort of the dissenters and Punjab MPs who had criticised Maken, Sunil Jakhar and Navjot Singh Sidhu during a meeting with her.

On Sunday, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) reposed faith in interim party chief Sonia Gandhi after its marathon meeting to discuss the outcome of the Assembly polls. She was also authorised to undertake "necessary and comprehensive" organisational changes.

"The CWC unanimously reaffirms its faith in the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and requests the Congress President to lead from the front, address the organisational weaknesses, effect necessary and comprehensive organisational changes in order to take on the political challenges," it said.

Only way there is a very remote chance of the Congress posing any serious threat to the BJP is getting rid of the unwanted baggage that are the 3 Ghandhi ‘s - as long as they are at the helm of affairs ; BJP stands to gain as they can directly pin point their sins of omission and commission,. The G23 and some more well wishers of the Congress can certainly have a clear cut vision to plan ahead , it is only the sycophants who want the 3G’S to lead.

In my view, The Gandhis should relinquish their power now before more damage is done. The party must always be bigger than any individual . 2023-2024 is a foregone conclusion. So prior to 2029 elections. RaGa has to aim for being a CM of a State .

Valid Points . In fact they should have realized this first. If you see all the PM aspiring candidates, they have been CMs of states, Kejriwal, Modi,(prior to PM) Stalin, Mamata , KCR, etc . Public knows how they have performed in their state. The Gandhis do not have any such thing on their CVs. So its obvious. The dynasty tag wont fly anymore. If it did , it would have been long back. There is still time, RaGa can start at CM level & perform in any of his states after being elected and begin his journey. Age is on his side. He is only 51.

You are right? from a MP in Kerala , straight away to the PM post? It defies logic. Tomorrow Nalin Kumar Benki Kateel will say the same , that he wants to be the PM! More over by side lining people like Pilot and Scindia has proved very costly for the party.

Just see in 1984.The Congress had 406 seats. The BJP had 2.In 2022 the BJP has 301.The Congress only 53. See the moot difference. Not in the seats. Even when BJP had 2 seats, they were disciplined, had a vision, narrative and had no dissenters. Had more than 2 top leaders to lead them any time. The Congress can boast of no such thing. It is in a complete mess. They can't think beyond Gandhis. Therefore rather tjan a national political party it has become a Private Enterprise that too a sinking one.
