BJP MP pushes for 'One nation, One election' in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Mar 24 (IANS): Pitching for 'One nation, One election', BJP MP Dr D.P Vats on Thursday demanded that all the elections be held at the same time to prevent the national resources from draining.

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, the BJP lawmaker batted for simultaneous elections. He said that in 1967, the then government had dismissed many state governments and held fresh Assembly polls. "From then only, the nation got into an election mode with polls being held in different intervals throughout the year," he added.

Continuous holding of elections, Vats said, also drains the administrative and the national resources.

Referring to a media report, the BJP leader said that when the Covid pandemic broke out in China, many international manufacturing companies shifted out their base to Indonesia and nearby countries. But India was left out as, according to the report, it is always in election or agitation mode.

He requested that the government, on the basis of consensus among all political parties, hold all elections at the same time.

Other Members also associated with Dr Vats on this issue.

Good Initiative. One Nation, one election and one Slogan. Be Indian. Less damage to tax payers money. Corrupt political leaders should be caught and put behind bars for in-definite period. Warning for all those corrupt political leaders.

This is an idea to keep people away from their rights for 5 full years without fear of facing any election & bulldoze on so called reforms like Farm Laws which are draconian & deprive the voters to show their anger in multiple elections in different states. Another advantage is fix the EVM s together so that no head ache of doing them again & again & get caught. State elections are based on that state's issues which the central govt doesn't want as Vikas is missing since 7 years other than propaganda of numbers in advertisements on papers & other media. To bring in One World Order they never want people to be awake all the time instead of once in 5 years. People need to oppose these so called reforms which never are good for them but only for politicians who always borrow money & enhance their salaries while people are suffering due to their mismanagement of economy with high inflation pushing them to below poverty line first time in record numbers since 45 years, Provide employment & reduce fuel taxes which trigger all round inflation & stop thinking you are invincible with power.
