Dubai, Apr 6: It will be a great treat to everybody’s eyes to watch two generations coming together on the same platform and exhibiting their talents on canvass. Peter Lewis who needs no introduction to art lovers is all set to hold his art exhibition along with his granddaughter Rheanne Amelda Lewis on April 7 at Fortune Atrium Hotel from 7 PM onwards.
Peter Lewis, a Karnataka Rajyotsava award winner (1992) and chairman of Karnataka Lalith Kala Academy (2000-2004) has fully dedicated his life to paintings. He started his journey decades ago on canvass in 1962, his work has reached places all over the world and appreciated world-wide. Though Peter Lewis did get opportunities to live in countries where he had better chance to grow as an artist he decided to live in his motherland and do what he could to encourage young artists to pursue their dream. Peter Lewis feels that appreciation is truly the greatest reward that an artist can ever get.

He recalls that the Sheikh of Sharjah had appreciated his work and had also chosen one of his art work to be a part of their museum. Remembering another incident, when Pope John Paul visited India where two of Peter Lewis’ paintings were on display and the Pope had personally appreciated the same along with other cardinals present at the occasion. “I considered that appreciation as blessings and that only made me a successful artist,” he says.
Although he is an acclaimed artist he is very humble and down to earth person. He has completed decades of work on canvas but he still feels that he is not a complete artist. Such is his simplicity. He is a Role Model and continues to encourage younger generation to pursue their dream. A number of young artists inspired by him have taken their career as art. His granddaughter Rheanne Amelda Lewis is one among them.
Rheanne Amelda Lewis is 20 years old, studies animation at SAE Institute Dubai. She picked up her first paint brush at the age of 2. Ever since she has not looked back like her Champion Grand Father and held her first exhibition at the age of 12. Her paintings on different subjects have impressed art lovers.
This art exhibition will be held under the banner of ‘Daddyz Art Gallery’ and will run from April 7 to 10. Art lovers are requested to attend in full strength.

About Peter A Lewis
Born in 1936, Peter Lewis' paintings hark back to early boyhood explorations of the countryside’s inherent magnificence. Later on his skills were recognized in the right perspective at the renowned Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai which honoured his achievement with a gold medal in the 1960’s. He has been an acclaimed Indian artist renowned for his paintings for over 50 years.
Awards and honours have accompanied his artistic evolution, of which those emanating from the state Lalit Kala Academy and the All India Dasara Art Exhibition stand out for their frequency. A Rajyothsava Award in 1990 and a Roerich Memorial Award in 1996 crown his endeavours.
The paintings have an implicit environmental message, the landscapes and seascapes convey beauty that is fragile and vulnerable to the imperatives of development and defense. Deep feeling and effort have been expended on the vast canvas wherein he seeks to propagate a message of peace and harmony along with south Indian culture.
Many of Lewis’ paintings evoke the genre of 19th-century French Impressionist painters whose bold colours and fluid forms were a landmark in western art. Over the long course of a fruitful career, the public have had occasions to take in his offerings at prestigious galleries in India and abroad. One may infer that his work comes with a seasoned touch and mature perspective.
