Mangaluru, Apr 12: Chief minister (CM) Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday April 12 said that maintaining the law and order and peace in the state is the duty of the government. “Stringent action will be against those who take the law into their hands,” he said.

Answering a query about the rising communal issues, Bommai said, "There is no fight between any religions in the state, but a few organisations are giving provocative statements. That is not a big issue. But a few elements are trying to provoke. I have asked the police department to take care of this. Yesterday, director general of police had spoken to all deputy commissioners and had a discussion on maintaining the law and order situation and also to protect the general public. There is no compromise in maintaining law and order.”

Further answering queries from the media, he said, “Kumaraswamy’s statements are not important to me. Soon after any untoward incident, we have arrested the accused. Police arrested the accused soon after the incidents took place in Dharwad Shivamogga and Kolar. Without any hesitation, we have taken action wherever it is necessary. People who are speaking now should introspect on what they did when they were in power,” he said.

Speaking on party activities, he said, "To organize the party, we are holding 'Vibhag' level meetings for the upcoming elections. Three teams led by Yediyurappa, Arun Singh and Nalin Kumar Kateel are touring the entire state and preparing for the elections. We will hold the state executive committee meeting on April 16 and 17. We will discuss political developments and organisation of the party at the meeting.”
