Udupi: Court convicts three for robbing family of four at gun point

Udupi , Apr 18: The JMFC Court on Tuesday, April 19 convicted four persons found guilty of robbing a family of gold, mobiles and cash from a house cum shop.

The convicted are Umanatha Shetty of Maaraali, Udupi, Sunil Kumar of Hassan and Santhosh alias Alwyin Pinto of Kandhavara in Mangaluru.

On December 8, 2002, at around 9 PM, Umanatha Shetty, Shridhar alias Prakash of Marthahalli in Bengaluru, Sunil Kumar of Hassan and Santhosh alias Alwyin Pinto, barged into a house of Balakrishna Vaidya in Muddoor of Nalkooru village, Udupi, threatened him with a revolver, tied up three of his family members and had looted Rs 15, 000 cash, 71 sovereign gold and five mobile phones from his house and shop. In this regard, a case was registered in Hebri police station. After investigation, the police filed a charge sheet before the court.

The court has convicted the guilty to three years and six months of imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 10, 500 on them.
JMFC Court judge Deepa pronounced the judgement.

Senior assistant public prosecutors Badrinath and Jayanthi argued in favor of the state.

Another accused Shridhar alias Prakash of Marthahalli in Bengaluru is still at large.
