“A probe was undertaken by ACP Mahesh Kumar. Two are being treated at Wenlock and one at Sanjivini Hospital, Kateel. We found injury marks on their body. As a disciplinary action, Bajpe inspector Sandesh and three other personnel Praveen, Sunil and Syed Imtiyaz have been suspended with pending departmental enquiry. A detailed enquiry report from DCP law and order Hariram Shankar is expected soon.
“The incident occurred three days ago. After detailed enquiry, we found loopholes from police personnel so we had to suspend them,” he said.
Regarding the incident, he said, “It is said that 4-5 months ago, the assistant commissioner had evicted a few shops in the surrounding of Kateel temple and order was issued for the same which was not implemented. Even after the AC evicted the shops, some were still operating. A person from Moodbidri was unloading tender coconuts at the shop one morning when two persons questioned saying that the shop has been closed and not supposed to operate.
“The shopkeepers shared information with the police that two persons had stopped them from unloading tender coconuts.
“The police took two persons into custody in this regard. During the enquiry, the persons had not responded and misbehaved and were hence assaulted which we came to know in our investigation. Another person who went to station in order to release them, was also assaulted by the police personnel.
“During the primary investigation, there were loopholes from the police personnel. Hence, as disciplinary action, we have suspended four police personnel.
“We have asked all the officials and police personnel to behave nicely with the public whoever comes to police station or any suspects of any cases. If such incidents occur, as disciplinary action, we will suspend the concerned officials or police personnel.
