Mangaluru, May 29: Former deputy commissioner and Congress leader Sasikanth Senthil on Sunday, May 29 called upon the public to celebrate the diversity of the country which is the true essence of India to end the communal polarisation.
He was speaking after inaugurating 'Souhardha Sammelana' organised by the Samarasya Mangaluru at CV Nayak Hall in Bunts Hostel here.
Stating that he was born and brought up in Chennai and that he was taught to respect and treat all religions equally, Senthil said, "This is not a fight between the religions. This is not even a conflict between Hindus and Muslims. But this is a political strategy of creating insecurity and fear," he said.
He also said that it is a conflict between two mindsets, one mindset which wants love, harmony, peace, and brotherhood and another mindset that does not want love, peace, harmony, and brotherhood. “This second mindset wants to change the constitution. This has been happening in the country since pre-Independence. It also exists at all levels of society including the bureaucracy,” he said.
"You can find the second kind of mindset in 10% of the people. The remaining 90% of them want peace, harmony, and brotherhood. In Mangaluru too, only 10% of them create such things. But, the remaining 90% of the people remain silent. The silence of the majority of people has given room for this kind of polarisation politics," Senthil added.
“The people who believe in true India should speak on the pluralism of the country and celebrate the diversity of the country by joining celebrations of different faiths. It is true Bharath,” he said.
He also cautioned the public not to remain silent. Instead, the diversity of the country should be celebrated, if not, it will sound peril for the next generation.
"When institutions fail, the individuals should stand up. If not, the entire system will collapse," he said.
Fr Joseph Martis of Derebail Church said," I have visited so many countries in the world. But, India is a beautiful country with great values and unity in diversity. We all should live as Indians by celebrating the unity and diversity of the country."
Issac Puttur of Shanti Prakashan said, "Communalism is a threat to religion. All religions preach true human values. No religion will ever accept the division on the basis of belief. Misusing religion for political gain will result in the decline of values in faith. Communalism is a threat to religion. No religion will accept it. "
