Mangaluru, Jun 15: The evaluation work of answer papers of Mangalore University examinations are facing hurdle. Guest lecturers are not attending evaluation work on full scale. At the present pace, the results, which were supposed to be declared in 15 days, will take a month’s time at least.
The evaluation work of BCom, BSc, BCA and BBA degrees of Mangalore University began on June 13. Along with the evaluation, degree classes for second, fourth and final semester are also in progress. However the issue of using guest lecturers for evaluation work is not resolved yet.
In Mangalore University 60% of evaluation work is done by guest lecturers and 40% is covered by permanent lecturers, including departmental heads and principals. However, College education department says that guest lecturers will not be paid separately for evaluation work. They should either do class lecturing or evaluation. So the guest lecturers are giving priority to classes, which has made the evaluation work go slowly.
Prof P L Dharma says, “We thought of publishing results within 15 days this academic year. But the due to the strange case of guest lecturers it might get delayed indefinitely. We have sent an appeal to the college education department to review the policy.”
Guest lecturer Sathish says, “The guest lecturers are totally confused what to do. The deduction of salaries of the guest lecturers who evaluate answer papers has created chaos. Several messages are shared on social media of either evaluation or classroom teaching. But no one is giving a clarification.”
Except Mangalore University, all other universities of the state have completed the examinations as well as the answer paper evaluation. Permanent lecturers get all facilities of leave, allowance etc but guest lecturers do not have such provision. That is why the guest lecturers are showing more inclination towards teaching which is much easier compared to evaluation work, according to the information shared by guest lecturer Dheeraj.
