Mangaluru, Jul 3: Around 66 houses have been damaged in Ullal taluk on the outskirts of the city in the past three days due to landslides and sea erosion.
More than 50 houses are on the verge of collapsing due to landslides and sea erosion. The loss is estimated at Rs 60 lac.
Eight houses have been damaged after the Ullal taluk was formed and the loss is estimated at Rs 26 lac. In addition, 58 houses were damaged badly in other parts of the taluk and the loss is estimated at RS 24.9 lac.
Nearly 30 houses are at risk at Ullal sea ground and Ucchila Battappadi due to sea erosion, while 20 are facing the danger of collapse due to landslides.
Neither the district administration nor the department concerned has taken any action to repair the beach road that connects Ucchila end point and Battappadi, which collapsed two years ago.
The work on a permanent solution to the issue is only half done, which has resulted in sea erosion at Battappady and 15 houses are at risk of getting washed away in the sea. Many houses do not have an approach road. At Ullal seaground more than 15 houses are in danger as 500 meters of sea erosion related work is pending.
