Timely rescue by army saves life of injured youth in J&K

Jammu, Jul 4 (IANS): Prompt and timely rescue by the Army saved the life of a seriously injured 24-year-old youth in Jammu and Kashmi's Kishtwar district.

Officials said Ankit Kumar, 24, was working in his agricultural field on Sunday with a hand tractor when he met with an accident that left him seriously injured in both legs and was unable to move.

The local army unit noticed the injured youth in the field and immediately rushed to his rescue.

"He was provided first aid and after that the jawans took him on a cot. They crossed the Chenab River on a rope with a hanging cart.

"The soldiers pulled the cart over the rope with their bare hands till they crossed the roaring Chenab River. The soldiers did this rescue virtually on the razor's edge.

"The youth was admitted to the hospital where he is being treated now.

"Attending doctors have said that if the soldiers had not come to the youth's rescue, he would have bled to death in his agricultural field.

"Family and the people of the area have hailed the noble and brave effort of the army," officials said.
