Mangaluru, Jul 12: Chief minister (CM) Basavaraj Bommai, visited the areas at Battappady, Ullal affected by sea erosion on Tuesday July 12. He said that a severe breaker technology is planned to permanently stop sea erosion. “I have approved the project,” he said, speaking to media.

He further said, “Erosion ate away 800 metres of the sea shore last time. It is 600 metres now. There are complaints that laying stones and ADB works are not effective here. The government is indulging to retain and strengthen the project for which Rs 200-300 crores were spent. The new methods to permanently stop sea erosion have been shown through a PowerPoint presentation last month. I have asked to repair the Battappady road that is already damaged. Natural calamities have increased in certain places and a study is necessary to prevent them. The residents of houses that are in danger have been asked to shift to safety.

"There is a NDR package of Rs 739 crore and the compensation will be distributed on the basis of a report submitted by the deputy commissioner. Roads in the Ghat section will be developed following reports that the work was not right. The four-lane work will be completed after the monsoon after another survey. We are beginning the work of tunnel road. We have visited the houses affected by earthquake and landslides. We have held talks with people who are worried,” he said. He explained about damages to the bridge at the place where Netravati and Kumaradhara rivers join.

MLA U T Khader thanked the chief minister for his visit.

Minister of revenue R Ashok, ministers Kota Srinivas Poojary, S Angara, MLC Pratapsimha Nayak, deputy commissioner Dr K V Rajendra, BJP leaders Santhosh Boliar, K Ravindra Shetty Ulidottu, Sathish
Kumpala, Ullal block Congress president Sadashiva Ullal, Suresh Batnagar and others were present.

It is not "severe breaker technology", it is 'Sea wave breaker'. Nothing will materialize and things will still remain the same even after hundreds of years in India. Lagi shart?

Visit on aftermath is too late too little... However CM has come to witness the hardships of local community... Follow on actions, adequate compensations and alternate arrangements must be made to the affected families on a priority basis... It is necessary to form an expert team to study the vulnerable strips of coast and reinforce such areas against erosion...

I am not sure but I believe this sea ,( actually land) erosion started after NMPT acquired land from the sea by dredging. Nature unlike humans will not sit quiet if its property is acquired, so as a revenge the sea is acquiring land back from humans. No TDR no compensation problem....
