Bantwal, Jul 15: The public here, took a group of labourers, also sellers of fake honey, to task and drove them away on Thursday July 14.

A group of labourers had promised to extract honey from a beehive that was built on a pillar on B C Road. But, when they were found selling jaggery solution instead of honey, the public took them to task and drove them away.

A group of labourers who had arrived from some other state claiming to be beekeepers promised to remove a beehive and get the honey extracted from it that was built atop a big building. It was learnt that as the beehive was new there was no honey collected in it.

The labourers claimed that they had just then extracted the honey but they were found selling jaggery solution and honey wax and had sold large quantities of it earning a few thousands of rupees in the process.

When the public realised that the product the labourers were selling was actually a jaggery solution, they took them to task and warned the labourers not to sell fake honey elsewhere.

Beekeepers society honey is usually available in Janata Bazaar shops. But you wi have to pay the full sticker price (i.e.MRP) there, whereas you can buy it for about Rs.100/- cheaper at Beekeeper's cooperative's outlet.

Indian standard testing cannot catch adulteration of honey. Almost all honey is adulterated with "all-pass" syrup from china. Only NMR technology can detect all pass syrup, and hence Government has made it mandatory for honey exports to be screened using NMR and has set up a laboratory for this. Even most of the bee keepers put up a tray of sugar syrup for bees to consume. This syrup is laced with antibiotics so that they don't catch the desease. This is added menace- instead of safeguarding human health because of this consumption adds to microbial resistance.

You can buy it in the building near the now demolished vegetable market where Pearl Electronics is situated. Just move to the right side of the building where whole sale (GSB)merchant is located . He sells the same honey from Puttur Co-op Society. Monty doctor you are envy of our forum for getting precious honey.

Take a saucer with some water drop a little amount of honey ,if it remains seperate it is genuine, if it dissolves it is not genuine. Exception: I call my wife "honey" and she is genuine, she does not seperate.

In Gujarati there is a saying "Ek Gaadi, Ek Vaadi, Ek Baadi" meaning one vehicle, one house, one spouse. One has to remain faithful to each other. Life has its ups and downs, it is like share market,if you think long-term you are always a winner, if you think short term more often than not, you are a loser.

We have couple of honey bee boxes in Mangalore (FB :Jenutuppa),We know how difficult it is to get honey collected by bees,Hardly 3-5 kgs can be extracted in box in a year and the qty is reducing year by year.Back in 70's we could extract around 20-30 kgs/yr/box in a area with areca farm near by.Now most of them keep Sugar syrup and even we are forced to keep Sugar syrup mixed with honey for Bee;s during rainy season as food for them else all the honey family's will vanish soon! World will be fruitless very soon.Save Honey Bee's

This cheating is going on since years......Even in the shops (suburb shops) we get the same honey. One of my neighbors went on tour ooty side....when they returned they bought 3 bottles of honey somewhere sold at the kerala/ooty border....Its soo duplicate no one could trace. Finally, they came to know through some genuine sources....So, people unless otherwise you dont know the authenticity, dont buy and use....Bantwal too has forests .....!!

Fructose syrup is imported from China and mixed with some honey & is sold by most brands that claim it to be natural honey, no labs in India can detect this & few years back the samples were sent to France & found only one brand passed the test while other failed. Only Raw Honey isn't adulterated. In some villages people collect real honey & then sell them for a premium rate than these brands but are genuine most of the times.

Though bad, these poor labourers, they are faking it, possibly to earn their daily bread. There are politicians and govt babus, who are already multi-billionaries across the country and looting in billions, yet nobody bothered, instead they get revered. Travesty.

This fake industry is thriving from time immemorial... Be it food or anything else as products we the people are faked at least once in our life time... So many prefer to be faked on regular basis... Most times blind belief makes fake seem better than genuine... 'Pal Bhar Ke Liye Koyi Hame Pyar Kar Le... Jhoota hi Sahi..."
