Mangaluru, Jul 17: The police shot at a rowdy sheeter while he was trying to escape from their clutches at Asaigoli under the limits of Konaje police station in the wee hours of Sunday, July 17.
Mukthar, who has more than 14 cases against him under the limits of Ullal police station was taken by the police for spot inspection on the early morning of Sunday.
At around 6: 30 AM, the accused was brought to find his bike and hidden weapons. There, he attacked two of the cops and tried to escape. Inspector Sandeep fired in the air and attempted to warn him. When he did not budge, the inspector fired on his left leg, informed Police Commissioner N Shashikumar.

Vasudeva and Akbar, both police personnel of Konaje police station and the accused are injured in the incident and are admitted to a private hospital at Deralakatte.
Mukthar was underground for many years and was apprehended by the cops on Saturday. The incident took place while he was being taken for spot inspection.
City police commissioner and other senior officers have rushed to the spot and further investigation is under process.
Notorious Mukthar had burnt woman's petty shop over cigarette
The accused had burnt a shop belonging to a woman for not providing him a cigarette. Mukthar was a notorious rowdy. He has a dreaded crime history.
In the year 2021, one Shobha was running a petty shop. The accused who came to the shop, asked her for a cigarette. Shobha informed him that she had closed her shop. Enraged, he had burnt down her shop. Then, although a warrant was issued against him, he was roaming scotfree, hiding from the police.
Since 2014, he has been into criminal activities. Now, the accused is 27-year-old, and he started his journey of crime at a very young age. There are cases against him in Ullal, Barke and North police stations.
He was absconding for five years. Even in this period, he had committed six offenses. There are six attempts to murder cases, two cases under the Indian Arms Act, and a case of dacoity against him.
