Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (MS)

Beltangady, Jul 17: Huge explosion like sound and vibration of of the earth was experienced by people residing around the lower end of Ballalarayana Durga, which is situated at the edge of Kudremukh national park of Malavanthige village in the taluk, on the night of Thursday.

People of 16 houses residing at surrounding areas of Makki, Parla, Elyara Kanda and Daipithilu became scared. They did not sleep for the past two nights out of fear of landslide and rain.

Sub zonal forest officer Ranjith, forest guard Raju, assistants Gopal and Sathish paid visit to the area and did a spot inspection.
Locals said that they heard huge sound on Thursday night. But after that no sound was heard or vibration experienced.

The forest officials said that there is a possibility that some huge rock boulder must have slipped on the hill of Ballalarayana Durga due to incessant rainfall and heavy flow of water. However, the water that is flowing downwards from the hill is normal. So there is no need for locals to panic.
Members of all the 16 families living close to the hills said that they are ready to relocate if the government provides them alternative shelter. Survey was done earlier but it did not reach the final stages.

Some sort of seismic movement is going on in this region from Belthangady to Puttur and surrounding areas. The reason for multiple landslides in these areas could be attributed to these vibrations! It's high time that expert geologists are invited to investigate the exact cause before a big earthquake occurs!

You are right; all these drastic geological alterations could lead to a geological imbalance and trigger seismic activity like what happened in the Koyna dam region! These mild tremors across the region could be a precursor to a bigger jolt!!

Even after repeated incidents of earthquakes and tremors concerned authorities have not published actual reasons or any geological explanation or any seismic evidence for such activities in the area. Bommai is assessing flood situation and forthcoming assembly elections strategy ! Central government is engaged in enhancing taxes and robbing the citizens.

I can't rule out the possibility of some illegal human activity behind this sound and shock. Some people place dynamites to hunt wild bores and some use dynamites clandestinely to quarry granite stones. The concerned authorities in most cases are either ignorant of these activities or are in cahoots with the criminals.
