Mangaluru: Surathkal market work at standstill - Mohiuddin Bawa takes BJP MLA Bharat Shetty to task

Mangaluru, Jul 18: Former MLA Mohiuddin Bawa took to task sitting MLA of Surathkal constituency Dr Bharat Shetty for stoppage of Surathkal market work.

Speaking to reporters Bawa said, “The Surathkal market project, which was my dream child, is getting rotten due to the failure of the current MLA of the constitution.

“I had taken special grant of Rs 160 crore for the construction of ultra-modern market at the heart of Surathkal from the then chief minister Siddaramaiah amidst protest of 60 MLAs. The process began in 2016. As a first step the shops were shifted to the temporary facility built at a cost of Rs six crore. However, the main work, though began two years ago is not completed.

“Dr Bharat Shetty himself called the tenders for the new market in December 2017. In 2018, Rs 61 crore was released for the project. However, only Rs 16 crore is spent on the market project. Where did the rest of the money go?

“In the past four years, you have failed to shift the UGD line at a cost of Rs 25 lac. When questioned you say that officials have expressed their helplessness. There is no more shame than this. What is the use of you being an MLA?” he said.
