Mangaluru Jul 19: The legislative council opposition leader B K Hariprasad along with former MLA Mohiudeen Bava visited places in Mangaluru north constituency on Tuesday July 19, which are severely affected by recent heavy downpour.

B K Hariprasad visited places at Gurpur, Adyapaady and Meenakaliya. The houses in Gurupur were collapsed, while farmers had their grievances to B K Hariprasad over damage of agricultural land due to unscientific construction of Maravoor vented dam and heard the plea of people at Meenakaliya where the road is completely washed away due to sea erosion, while few houses attached to sea shore are on verge of collapsing any time.

The farmers at Adyapady said, ‘The agricultural land has been completely damaged after the unscientific construction of the Maravoor vented dam 9 years ago. We demand the removal of the bed system from the dam and change it to channel system that will bring some sigh of relief."

B K Hariprasad said, "A family lost its children at Gurupur two years ago after their house collapsed. Even after two years the compensation for the damage has not been given. The government has delayed in providing land or house to the families. Government needs to take swift action to provide compensation to the people whose houses, agricultural lands are damaged due to landslide and heavy rain.

Former MLA Mohiudeen Bava demanded compensation from the government to the people who are affected by the heavy downpour.

B K Hariprasad also visited Ullal and Uchila's Battapadi sea erosion areas to inspect damage due to sea erosion.

Congress leader Prathibha Kulai, Shashidhar Hegde and others were present.

What is the use of visiting??. This sea erosion problem is there from last many years and what Congress or JDS done when they were in power ??. They just put the stones and all washed away. They should have given the work to some Chinese or Japanese company to protect from sea erosion. They simply went to study this problem to foreign countries just like picnic. Why this problem is not in Kerala or Goa???.
