Mangaluru, July 20: Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council B K Hariprasad said the government is in the silent mode over providing flood relief.
Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, July 20, B K Hariprasad said, “rain has created havoc in Surathkal and Ullal where there was serious damage and loss of property. As per the guidelines of Central government, there has to be immediate release of relief measures including funds through NDRF and SRDF."
He said two years ago houses had collapsed and two had died at Ganjimutt and compensation was given to the deceased family. But there were no measures taken for others whose houses had collapsed including doling out any kind of compensation. Government is in silent mode as no preventive measures have been taken over the 400-km stretch of the coastal belt.
“Mangaluru is a tier-2 city under smart city, but government has made it has a disaster city,” he charged.
With regard to the race between Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar for becoming the chief minister, Hariprasad said, “Congress party will follow its tradition and the party under Sonia Gandhi will decide on the matter.”
When asked about criticism over Siddaramotsava, B K Hariprasad said, “Congress is not organising the event but it is being organised by Siddaramaiah’s followers.
