Puttur , Jul 29: Police who lathi-charged BJP workers during the funeral procession of slain BJP leader Praveen stand transferred.
IGP of western range Devajyoti Ray took an order to this effect on Friday, July 29. In addition, the police sub inspectors (PSI) of Bellare and Subramanya police stations who are transferred are not assigned any other police stations but asked to report to IG office at Mangaluru.
Suhas of Kundapur police station is appointed as new PSI of Bellare police station and Manjunath, PSI of Vittal police station is given charge of Subramanya police station.
Police and youths of Hindu organizations had heated arguments during the funeral procession of Praveen on Tuesday July 26. Some workers hurled stones at the police and the cops had to resort to lathi-charge in order to bring the situation under control.
Police beat senior RSS activist from Kasargod Ramesh with lathis. Video of the beating had gone viral on social media. Pro-Hindu organizations had expressed anger against this incident and called for action on police. They had condemned chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, who arrived to Bellare on Thursday for not taking any action on police. Now the government has bent to the pressure of Hindu activists and transferred two PSIs.
