Bengaluru, July 29: JD(S) leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has lashed out at Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai for talking about Uttar Pradesh or Yogi Adityanath model of using bulldozers against the houses of those responsible for murders and termed it as nothing but an attempt to divert attention by talking of such absurd things to divert public attention from his BJP government’s utter failure to maintain the law and order situation in the State.
“The chief minister speaking about the Yogi model and threatening to use bulldozers is the height of irresponsibility,’’ Kumaraswamy said.
In a series of tweets on social media, the JD(S) leader accused Bommai of failing to uphold the sanctity of his office and oath by visiting only the residence of BJP activist Praveen Nettaru of Bellare in Sulia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district while failing to visit the residence of another murder victim Masood.
“Bommai is the chief minister for entire Karnataka not just to BJP. When he visited Dakshina Kannada on Thursday night, the chief minister should have visited the residence of both Masood and Praveen. But, he has failed to uphold the Raj Dharma that his party’s Atal Behari Vajpayee had advised the present Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when the latter was Gujarat chief minister. Not just Raj Dharma, he does not respect his own religion’s precept ‘Sarve Jano Sukhino Bhavantu’’ and thereby violated the sanctity of the oath of his office,’’ Kumaraswamy said.
The former chief minister said: “Murder is not an answer to murder. So also revenge is not the answer to revenge. The chief minister’s action is encouraging violence. He should have visited the residence of both the residences of the victims rather than just one person of his own party, and thereby sent a stern message to the culprits.’’
Kumaraswamy said the chief minister should know that blood does not distinguish between religions or castes. “The very fact that another murder took place in Mangaluru on the same night he was there is proof of the government’s utter failure,’’ he said adding that “only those who have no faith in Constitution or rule of law can speak of such things.”
“It is shocking and shameful that the Janata Parivar stalwart and son of S R Bommai, a follower of great humanist M N Roy, who joined the BJP from the same Janata stable, has now started invoking bulldozer model by becoming a die-hard BJP man. The JD(S) leader said it is deplorable that 3 murders have taken place in the coastal region in the last 10 days and a region known for its education, industries, banking, entrepreneurship and pioneering spirit has become a haven of murderers.“This is proof that law and order situation has completely failed in the State,’’ he said.
“A time will come when the people will rise in revolt against the double engine BJP rule in the State and Centre if the Bommai government failed to control the situation,” Kumaraswamy warned.
