Mangaluru, Jul 29: Residents of the district who reside in the vicinity of Kudremukh are in danger of being displaced. Around 1.32 lac financially poor families will be distraught if the Kasturi Rangan report is implemented.
It will include around 48 villages under the eco-sensitive zone of the western ghats and all the poor families are in danger of being displaced. There has been a struggle seeking non-implementation of the dreaded Kasturi Rangan reports for many years in the district. Protests are set to gain momentum again to this implementation.
The Union environment department has taken out the fifth notification of identifying the environmental sensitive zone in the western ghat region. From 1957 to 1994, nine forest sanctuaries have been created in this region. Now they want to make one more at the cost of displacement of villagers.
Union environmental department has notified in this regard on July 4 and has given 60 days time to raise objections. If Kasturi Rangan report is implemented the life of coastal area, Malnad and people living under the western ghat limits will be totally disrupted.
Naravi, Malavanthige, Kutlur, Sulkerimogru, Shirlalu, Navara, Savanalu, Charmadi, Sulkeri, Navooru, Neriya, Nada, Puduvettu, Shishila, Kalenja, Shibaje and Rekya villages of Beltangady taluk fall under the environmentally sensitive zone.
In Kadaba taluk, Kaukradi golithottu, Shiradi, Alanthaya, Siribagilu, Balya, Kombaru, Bilinele, Dolpadi, Balpa, Enekallu, Subramanya and Ainekidu villages are some of the villages in the Kasturi Rangan report which have been identified as sensitive areas.
In Sullia taluk, Nalkooru, Kutkunja, DEvachalla, Hariharapallathadka, Balugodu, Madappadi, Ubaradka, Mithuru, Kalmakaru, Aranthodu, Aletty, Sampaje, and Thodikana villages are considered as environment senivitive zones.
If the report is implemented 1.32 lac people will lose even the basic amenities and will have no life. As the legislative assembly elections are round the corner, this report will be a bottleneck for all the political parties.
