Mangaluru/Udupi, July 29: Prohibitory orders have been clamped in parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts following serial murders that occurred at Sullia and Surathkal in the past 10 days.
Security has been tightened in Bantwal with additional police force being deployed at communally sensitive areas of Bantwal, Bantwal rural and Vitla police station limits.
Hassan SP Hariram Shanker is stationed at Bantwal. Additional police personnel including Chikkamagaluru additional SP have been summoned from Chikkamagaluru, Karwar and Belthangady.
Police personnel ensured that business establishments down their shutters as District deputy commissioner Dr K V Rajendra ordered closure of commercial activities to maintain law and order from 6 pm to 6 am.
Bantwal police conducted a flag march on B C Road to fill people with courage as prohibitory orders under Section 144 will be in force from July 29 midnight till the midnight of August 6. Bantwal station officers, staff and KSRP staff were present.
Meanwhile police security in Udupi also has been beefed up following rise in serial crimes in the coastal districts.
District police have erected check posts at several strategic points including a few of them on NH-66 where suspected vehicles are being inspected and especially those with number plates of other states and other districts.
Police have tightened vigil at the main junction and sensitive areas such as Balayipade of Udyavar, Ambagilu and Nejar.
