Udupi, Jul 30: Villagers of Kodavoor near here closed down shops on Saturday July 30, voluntarily, condemning the killing of BJP leader Praveen Nettaru who was hacked to death a few days ago.
A message to this effect was sent out on July 29 to close down shops from 9 am to 3 pm on July 30.
The elders of the village said, “Every time when such killings happen, we say that we condemn such killings, we will protest fiercely etc. But if we do not want such killings to happen in future, there is need to get down to the streets. That is why we have called for a bandh on Saturday and voluntarily closed shops.”
Auto rickshaw drivers and owners also cooperated in the voluntary bandh call.
“If we do not get justice to this protest, we will call for Udupi bandh and we will also join,” said the villagers of Kodavoor. Elders of the village say that at least from now, the murder of innocent Hindus should stop.
